The Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kingdom of Thailand commemorated the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on July 6, 2022. This significant milestone symbolizes the enduring friendship between Kazakhstan and Thailand, which commenced with their inaugural diplomatic mission in 1992, shortly after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The bilateral engagement between the two countries is exemplified by the presence of Thailand’s embassy in Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, and an honorary consulate in Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan. In reciprocation, Kazakhstan maintains its embassy in Bangkok and an honorary consulate in Chonburi province.

Over the past three decades of diplomatic bilateral relations, both states have fostered mutually beneficial collaboration across various domains. These include security, trade tourism, culture, and education. Notably, the tourism sector has significant strides, facilitated by visa exemptions implemented by both governments. Kazakhstan has extended Thai passport holders, allowing them to visit Kazakhstan for short-term stays of up to 30 days without visa requirements. In reciprocation, the Thai government has introduced a stimulating visa scheme aimed at bolstering the Kazakhstan tourist market. This initiative, particularly relevant during the high tourist season from September 25, 2023, to February 29, 2024, grants Kazakhstan tourists the opportunity to extend their stay from 15 days to 30 days.

Notably, Thailand has imported a diverse range of products, including metal ores, chemicals, miscellaneous appliances, paper goods, and textiles. Conversely, Kazakhstan’s exports encompass automotive products, machinery equipment and components, plastic pellets, and refrigerators.

In terms of international cooperation, both states have consistently fostered robust cooperation within various organizations, These include the United Nations, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the Asian Cooperation Dialogue, and other relevant platforms. Through these channels, Kazakhstan and Thailand have actively engaged in collaborative efforts, contributing to regional stability, mutual understanding, and shared prosperity.
